Print on Demand. This book explores the foundational principles of political economy, advocating for enhancements in power through knowledge and education. The author, who drew inspiration from continental economists, introduces new concepts to the field, including the idea that value is subjective and conferred by individuals rather than inherent in objects. The book also argues that human relations, including family and national ties, should be considered forms of wealth and capital, highlighting the importance of valuing the social fabric. Furthermore, the book challenges the premise that high prices for essential goods, such as corn, are necessary to ensure high rents. Instead, the author argues that a high standard of living and dignified conditions for all should be prioritized. Ultimately, this book offers fresh insights into the principles of economics and its implications for society, encouraging readers to rethink the very nature of wealth and progress. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

- Economics
This volume presents a concise set of lectures delivered at Cambridge in Easter Term 1844. It focuses on questions about how agriculture and industry interact, and what rent and production costs mean for national prosperity. The discussion challenges established ideas and shows how shifts in food prices can influence wages, farming methods, and industrial progress.
- Ideas about rent and land use across different soils and crops
- Arguments that question the traditional Ricardo theory of rent
- Connections between food prices, consumption, and broader economic health
- Observations on how policy and practice affect farmers, workers, and industry
Ideal for readers of economic thought and 19th-century debates on how best to organize production and distribution.
