Print on Demand. This collection of humorous anecdotes, akin to a tasty hash, serves as a literary mirror, reflecting human nature's quirks and foibles. From the quips of Abraham Lincoln to the exploits of Southern colonels and the wry wisdom of Mark Twain, this book offers a diverse array of witty tales that illuminate the human condition. At its core, this book delves into the universality of humor, exploring the themes of exaggeration, cultural differences, and the absurdity that often permeates our lives. Through its compilation of hilarious stories, this book provides a timeless reminder of the power of laughter to connect us and shed light on the human experience. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.

A collection of anecdotes, like corned beef hash, should be judged as much by what is left out as by what is put in. The editor has sought to exclude from this little book all stories of purely local appeal, as well as stories that depend for their humor upon ridicule of any nation or creed.
The index of the subjects illustrated by these stories will, it is thought, be helpful to public speakers. A speech is a long, narrow passage leading to some broad conclusion. Anecdotes are the lamps that light the way. If the pas sage be obscure and gloomy, it may be that few will follow it. But if the pas sage be cheerfully lighted, all will gladly accompany the guide, and long after reaching the conclusion they will remem ber with pleasure the way through which he led them.
