This volume is a collection of articles based on the plenary talks presented at the 2008 meeting in Hong Kong of the Society for the Foundations of Computational Mathematics. The talks were given by some of the foremost world authorities in computational mathematics. About the Authors

Felipe Cucker is a Chair Professor of Mathematics at City University of Hong Kong. He is presently the Chairman of the Society for the Foundations of Computational Mathematics.

Allan Pinkus holds the Margaret Mosenfelder Harris Chair in Mathematics at the Department of Mathematics at the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology.

Michael J. Todd is the Leon C. Welch Professor of Engineering at Cornell University. He is a Fellow of INFORMS, and has received the George B. Dantzig Prize from MPS and SIAM, and the John von Neumann Theory Prize from INFORMS.
