Good readable copy.; New and revised version of "Chinese Art" published by Penguin Books in 1958 in two volumes, by the author William Willets.; "In preparing this version, I have tried to make the text more readable for the ordinary reader by cutting out much of the "medieval disputation" that kept invading the pages of Chinese Art, and perhaps also by lightening the style somewhat. I have incorporated some of the new archaeological discoveries of the past two decades, and particularly those which push the history of Chinese bronze art back two centuries ot the beginning of the Shang dynasty, about 1500 BC, and whoch show us its primitive autochthonous beginnings on Chinese soil; a fact previously discredited by so many Western scholars." excerpt from the foreword by the author in 1965.
