There are nine brief chapters, each dealing with a specific aspect of foundation repair. There are many photographs and sidebars to help you understand the ideas. To make things faster, you probably don t have to read chapters that don t apply to you.
For example, if you have a foundation that is settling, you ll need to read chapters 1, 2, 3 and 9 and won t have to read chapters 4 - 8. If your foundation walls are bowing, leaning, or pushing-in, you only need to read chapters 7 - 9. And, if you have slab settlement, problems above your crawl space, or are doing new construction, you can read the chapter specific to those problems.
David, Amanda and I teamed up to write this book, and we include the voices of many of us here at Foundation Supportworks. So, yes, we have an interest in its success. But since a foundation repair can be a significant project, you ll need more information than can be provided in a brochure, and the issue deserves more attention than that. When confronted with having a repair project done, most people would want to know what a foremost expert in the field would do to their own home.
It is our intention to give you all the facts and ask all the questions you should be asking when undertaking a foundation repair project. We ll present what is available from our company and others, explore the advantages and disadvantages, and discuss why they are important. We ll look at fixing settling foundations, floor slabs, support columns in crawl spaces, new construction, and bowing or pushed-in foundation walls.
We understand that you re reading this because you are probably shopping for a foundation repair contractor and strategy. While we are stakeholders in a foundation repair company, you are the owner of your home and are the one to make the decision. As with any choice in products and contractors, some are not what they promise, and it may be what you don t know that creates a problem for you if you purchase it. This book is full disclosure of the industry for your consideration.
We hope you get value from this information no matter what you decide to do. We respect that you are the judge.
