From the Publisher
New Part Openers feature prominent people in the world of finance, such as Alan Greenspan. These openers serve to motivate students and show the real world implications and success stories available in the finance discipline.
Provides the latest information on "The New Economy" and how it pertains to finance in Chapters 1 and 14. We all know the "e-world" is here, and this content is current and will hold student interest.
Chapter 19 (previously Convertibles and Warrants) is now titled Convertibles and Derivative Securities and includes coverage on how derivatives our driving our economy. This chapter also presents the basics of hedging.
Finance in Action boxes, which present readings that highlight specific topics of interest, are now categorized into three groups: global, real world, and technology.
Includes new examples of functional integration (how marketing, management, and accounting relate to finance) and small business finance. These are located in boxes where appropriate. For instance, in Chapter 4 there is a box entitled "Sales Forecasting: Where Marketing and Finance Come Together."
New real company examples that reflect recent headlines in the news. Their logos are presented in the margins where they are mentioned for easy student recognition.
The Self-Study CD ROM is re-programmed for greater student appeal and ease of use. The CD is included FREE with every new textbook, and includes electronic study questions that contain glossary terms, chapter outlines, chapter summaries, and true-false and multiple-choice questions for each chapter. It enables students to take a test from one chapter or several chapters at a time. It also has a Time Value of Money problem generator, which creates an infinite number of problems for review of this challenging yet fundamental concept. The software is written by the authors. Excel Template software is also included on the CD, as is the PowerPoint Presentation software.
Functional use of four colors enhances the understanding of tables, graphs, and exhibits. The authors explain how color is used pedagogically on the end sheets. Color is an integral part of the presentation of finance topics to assist understanding and retaining the concepts being discussed. For example, red stands for short-term financing in some figures, while blue stands for long-term financing.
In-book Acetates on the Time Value of Money helps instructors communicate this often challenging subject to students in a clear, step-by-step way. They visually relate future values and present values. These are found in Chapter 9.
Chapter 2 provides a review of accounting principles, finance terminology and financial statements to help students understand the impact of financial decision-making.
End of chapter material includes a summary, summary list of equations, list of terms, discussion questions and problems, and comprehensive problems (in select chapters).
Uses company logos in the margin of the text where a situation involving the company is used as an example. This feature calls attention to the strength in providing real-world examples.
Chapter opening vignettes motivate students by bringing in current events to illustrate the material to be learned in the chapter. Chapter openers also include a list of chapter concepts that provide a quick introduction of the material students will be expected to learn in the chapter.
