About the book >.>.> The Forum of Trajan in Rome: A Study of the Monuments presents a general account of the architecture of the Forum as a whole, including the Basilica Ulpia. It begins with the site?s history, destruction, later use and excavation, then turns to its lesser monuments and their place within the complex. The book examines monuments that remain buried beneath modern streets as well as those that have been excavated. Its subjects include the three triumphal arches at the south end of the forum square, the equestrian statue of Trajan that stood at the centre of the plaza, the East and West Colonnades and Hemicycles, and the libraries. It also draws on unpublished documents and drawings, reported finds, architectural fragments, restoration studies, and photographs and plans to support reconstructions of the site. The Column of Trajan and Basilica Ulpia are considered in context, while the volume?s primary focus is the wider group of monuments in the Forum. (MP).…
