FORTITUDE: Key Insights to a Successful Career Path in Sales is a practical, experience-driven guide for anyone who wants to build a successful and rewarding career in sales. Written by Chris Matson, a 40-year sales veteran and agency president, this book delivers real-world advice, proven sales techniques, and the mindset required to excel in one of the most competitive fields in business.
Across 74 concise chapters, Chris breaks down the essential skills every salesperson must master. You’ll learn how to identify whether sales is the right path for you, understand the fundamentals of selling, and build strong organizational habits that keep you focused and productive. The book covers cold calling, prospecting, time management, sales forecasting, strategic planning, negotiation, CRM usage, and how to navigate both customers and your own company with professionalism and confidence.
What sets this book apart is its emphasis on fortitude—the mental strength, resilience, and determination required to overcome adversity, handle rejection, and persist when others quit. Through dozens of real-life sales stories, Chris shows exactly what it takes to succeed in the field: discipline, creativity, urgency, and the ability to think strategically under pressure. Readers will see how to turn obstacles into opportunities, how to differentiate themselves from competitors, and how to leverage innovation, organization, and preparation to close deals and grow long-term business relationships.
This book is ideal for both new salespeople who want a clear roadmap and experienced professionals who want to sharpen their skills and reignite their motivation. Each chapter is kept intentionally short—easy to read, easy to remember, and packed with insights that can be applied immediately.
Readers will learn how to:
- Build a strong professional foundation in sales
- Develop effective cold-calling and prospecting strategies
- Use creativity and personalized value propositions to stand out
- Improve negotiation and objection-handling skills
- Strengthen discipline, resilience, and mental toughness
- Grow customer relationships and build long-term business
- Increase sales performance through organization and relevance
- Overcome fear, hesitation, and the natural challenges of the profession
FORTITUDE is more than a sales book. It’s a blueprint for building confidence, developing a winning mindset, and elevating your entire career. Whether you’re exploring sales as a new opportunity or looking to take your existing sales career to the next level, this book gives you the tools to perform at your highest potential.
Perfect for readers searching for: sales career development, how to succeed in sales, sales motivation, professional selling techniques, cold calling strategies, business development skills, negotiation tactics, and real-world sales training.

Store description
We first started out as “The Paperback Exchange,” a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become “PBShop.” This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019. We are proud to be different and embrace standing apart on a book mountain by working from a virtual inventory which allows us to provide thousands of books that may be difficult to get for your bookshelf or your studies. Working with a number of different suppliers allows us to explore other avenues such as puzzles, sheet music and even stationery so we really do have something for everyone. Life is about being versatile in all realms of existence. If this is your first visit or you are a returning customer, we would like to welcome you to the PBShop family, for there is no friend as loyal as a book. We are a company who put our customers at the centre of everything we do as we understand the importance of reading because once you learn to read, you will forever be free. There are a whole lot of things in this world of ours that we are yet to explore, which is why we will forever inspire curious minds.…
