A BANG-UP JOB.AN ABSORBING, TINGLING STORY -The New York Times Book Review FORMULA ONE Formula One car racing is a breathtaking spectacle of men and machines, money and power played across five continents and sixteen countries. It's a high-tech, high-risk sport where a simple miscalculation can cost a driver his life. Formula One, the novel, is a fast-paced thriller that takes us onto the track and behind the scenes of this exciting sport. You'll meet cultured, international car racer Forrest Evers, retired because he feels he's lost his edge after several near-fatal accidents he can't explain. When a teammate's car careens through the air at 170 miles per hour and explodes on the Suzuka circuit in Tokyo, Evers suspects foul play. Now, to solve the mystery, he must do the one thing he vowed never to do again: climb behind the wheel of a Formula One car. Evers's search for the killer takes him across the United States and Mexico, from the sun- soaked beaches of California to New York, from the fashionable Knightsbridge section of London to Paris and finally to the Australian Grand Prix in Adelaide, where the clues he's assembled must add up to a solution that will save his life. Author Bob Judd puts us into the cockpits of the fastest racing machines in the world for a hands-on, driver's-eye view of this fantastic sport. We meet the wealthy people who finance Formula One racing, the high-tech car designers and mechanics, the glamorous drivers and their women: Veronica, wealthy, glamorous, talented, and afraid that Evers will kill himself and ruin her career; Susan, Evers's wife, who wants a divorce, the house, and the Aston-Martin; Nicole, girlfriend of the driver whose death Evers witnessed, who seeks revenge; and Beverly, the woman Evers falls in love with and takes with him to the Mexican Grand Prix. Formula One is a rare blend of international intrigue, action, gripping suspense, and best of all, super-realistic detail from the world's most dangerous and glamorous sport. What a good novel. Judd's car-racing knowledge is superbly integrated into this passionately told story.a perfect read. -TOM KENEALY, author of Schindler's List. …
