1967 Taiwanese reprint of 1903 original. Boards lightly soiled, rear flyleaves and free endpaper (all blank) removed. Binding tight and square, text clean and unmarked. xiv, 629 pp. Engraved frontispiece of Koxinga's forces attacking Fort Zeelandia. A history of colonial Formosa written by a Christian missionary to the area. The Republic of Formosa was a short-lived unrecognized state that existed on the island of Taiwan in 1895 during the interregnum between the formal cession of Taiwan by the Qing dynasty of China to the Empire of Japan after the Treaty of Shimonoseki.
