The scope of applications of forensic radiology includes determination of identity, evaluation of injury and death, use in criminal and civil litigation, in administrative proceedings such as workman's compensation hearings, in medical education, and in research. Until now, there has been no single source of radiologic knowledge for various disciplines to turn to when examining X-rays or other radiologic records as forensic evidence. This is the first book to cover the entire spectrum of radiological applications in forensic science.
Discover how forensic radiology can be used to:
This book contains information on forensic radiology obtained from authentic and highly respected sources, presented by different authors. Essentials are described and additional details are pointed out. The reader is not only amazed at the amount of material but also fascinated by the masterly way it is presented. The book summarizes the knowledge and experience of various authors acquired over more than 30 years. The editor and main author is a master of the anecdote, which is a great help in making the point and catching the reader's attention with a minimum of effort. I recommend the book to all those not only already working in or simply interested in forensic radiology, but also those working in an environment prone to forensic radiology problems. This recommendation extends to the expert, who will find new aspects and new approaches. The book is a must for any library that covers forensic medicine and/or diagnostic radiology.
―H. Vogel, European Radiology
The book is rich in illustrations, most of which are excellent...has a very high practical value for the forensic practise and will contribute to the increasing introduction of radiological techniques in the forensic practice.
―International Journal of Legal Medicine
Throughout the text, there are unusual words which sent me to the dictionary - benison, amanuensis, eidolon - all are used in a perfectly correct grammatical sense. Seldom have I derived more pleasure in reviewing a book. This work should be available to all involved in forensic sciences, and especially to all of us principally concerned with forensic autopsies.
―Peter B. Herdson, MB, ChB, B Med Sc, PhD, FRCPA, Australian Journal of Forensic Sciences, Vol. 32
This immensely readable, comprehensive and useful book should have a place in every radiologist's library.
―G.A. Foote, Australasian Radiology, Vol. 44
If you want to know what forensic radiology is all about, or perhaps want to start this discipline in your department, this is a good book for you. Go ahead and buy this book and get yourself accustomed to the subject. I, for one, would keep this book on my table permanently, as I keep getting medico legal cases daily in which radiology is required, and I know this book is going to be very helpful to me in my day to day work.
―Dr. Puneet Setia, Forensic Pathologist, in Anil Aggrawal's Internet Journal of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Volume 11, Number 2, July - December 2010
This book by Brogdon is a brilliant attempt to illustrate the applicability of diagnostic radiology to the broad range of the forensic sciences. It successfully assists as well as stimulates physicians to take up this very challenging field. I agree with the author that there is always an element of risk involved in such a text that it can be too difficult for some and too simple for others. However, this book by author successfully covers all the aspects of forensic radiology with relative ease and makes reading the book a pleasurable as well as knowledge gaining experience. Success of the author lies in the fact that this extremely readable text requires no background of medical training to understand, yet is detailed enough to inform physicians and scientists interested in this specialty field. The book will serve as a visual guide and standard reference not only for radiologists, but also for everyone involved in the field of forensics-from anthropologists to trial lawyers!!
―Dr. Sumer Kumar Sethi, Radiologist, in Anil Aggrawal's Internet Journal of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, Volume 11, Number 2, July - December 2010
Some books are of such paramount importance that we at the journal office thought one review may not be able to do justice to that book. ... Both reviewers gave a perfect 10 rating to this book.
―Anil Aggrawal's Internet Journal of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology
The new edition of ‘Brogdon’s’ establishes it once again as a major reference work. It is an essential purchase for any pathology or radiology departments and for any academic institutions involved in the teaching of these subjects. Congratulations are due to those involved in its production, including several members of the IAFR.
― Philip Allen, International Association of Forensic Radiographers
