Edition. with portrait frontispiece in photogravure, decorative title in red and black, and 18 plates, some light and occasional browning as often; original chocolate cloth elaborately embossed in blind, gilt back, gilt top, bright copy of an uncommon work. Hawker's most famous work comprises this collection of prose sketches, written originally for a variety of periodicals. First published in book form in 1870, The present edition enhances the work further through the editorship of Byles, the charming illustrations by Pethybridge and plates and portraits from a variety of other sources (including Baring-Gould). Remains particularly well-preserved overall; tight, bright, clean and strong. 8vo., on laid paper, 290 pp.
