From the Author
Planning a trip to Israel? Want to travel to the Holy Land some day, but can't right now? Looking to add freshness to your daily quiet time? FOOTPRINTS IN THE HOLY LAND lets you discover the appeal and significance of sixty key sites in the land of Israel. Through pictures, Scripture text, and meditations, FOOTPRINTS leads you on a spiritual journey from Jerusalem to Galilee to the southern borders of Judea. Whether you take the trek in person or visit only in your imagination, this devotional guide opens your mind to fresh insights and deeper understanding of the land where Jesus lived, died, and rose again. After my first trip to Israel, I searched for a book that would link each site to a relevant Bible passage. I wanted a guidebook that presented Christian teachings and traditions side-by-side with historical and archeological discoveries. Finding no such book, I put my seminary degree and twenty years of pastoral experience to work in writing one myself. Each chapter of FOOTPRINTS focuses on a different site in Israel. A relevant Scripture passage and key verse are supplied for each. At the end of the devotional thoughts, the reader finds a suggested prayer. These features are standard with most devotional books. What makes FOOTPRINTS stand out are the two bonus features focusing specifically on each location. The INSIGHT section presents relevant archeological discoveries and historical information helping the reader to understand why each place is noteworthy. In the span of ten days, the average tourist sees more than he can comprehend and hears more than she can remember. But because the ENRICHMENT section suggests practical things to do while at each site, it enables the user to experience personally the uniqueness of each location. Why settle for seeing the Jordan River when you can dangle your feet in its cool soothing waters? Why be content with a photograph of the Western Wall when you can touch its stones and tuck your own prayer into an ancient crevice? FOOTPRINTS' slim-jim format and full-color maps make it a perfect companion for the eager tourist. Its enlightening photos and captivating word pictures make it an ideal gift for the armchair traveler as well. I invite you to post your review of FOOTPRINTS here on this website or e-mail me. I hope FOOTPRINTS will help you to discover more about the Holy Land of Israel and to enjoy a closer walk with its most famous resident, Jesus.
