The extraordinary story of a classic Australian pioneer - told by Australia's 'Boswell of the Bush', Ion Idriess.
Almost single-handedly John Flynn of the Australian Inland Mission brought to the outback the Flying Doctor Service and the Bush Hospitals. His magnificent vision, formed as he travelled on the back of a camel across the vast space of Australia's outback, took a lifetime of courageous commitment to bring to reality.
It is impossible to read this book and remain untouched by the greatness of John Flynn's inspiration. - Morning Post, London
Ion Idriess celebrated Ausralia's exuberant history in over 50 books, written in an easy conversational style that has made him lastingly popular. In stories such as Flynn of the Inland The Desert Column, The Red Chief, Lasseter's Last Ride and Drums of Mer, Idriess brings to life the wild beauty of the outback and the many colourful characters who people it.
Now in its 52nd edition, a book that covers the creation of an inland network centred on Alice Springs, from camel travelling to the early days of radio and the aeroplane.

About the Author
Ion Idriess (1889―1979) is one of Australias best-loved writers, with fifty-six books to his credit and millions of copies sold. When he returned from the First World War he wrote The Desert Column, about his experiences with the 5th Light Horse. Prospecting for Gold was his first major successful work; it immediately sold out and was reprinted constantly in the following years, as were many of his books. Idriess spent much of his life travelling throughout Australia, collecting material for his true-life stories, including Flynn of the Inland, The Red Chief and Nemarluk. He was awarded the O.B.E. in 1968 for his contribution to Australian literature.
