John Flynn, "Padre" of the Australian Inland Mission, initially covered his vast parish mainly on camel-back, bringing solace and compassion to the scattered white settlers and the Aboriginal tribespeople. Later he added outback health services and "bush hospitals" to his efforts. He was instrumental introducing Australia's historic Flying Doctor Service to its endless open spaces and pedal radio communications to its lonely homesteads.
