This is the story of a Marine Corps pilot's service and personal and religious growth through two decades of service and many more of family life, overcoming personal loss, and severe medical problems.
About the Author: Lieutenant Colonel Robert A. Gillon, USMC, (Ret.) was born in Scotland and traveled twice around the work with his mother before he was eight years of age to be with his father, a oil field engineer and manager. His father sent Bob and his mother to stay with relatives in San Francisco shortly before the Japanese invasion of Burma. His father remained behind to destroy the oil field on orders from the British army before the Japanese overran the area, then trekked 550 miles to India. Bob grew up in San Francisco, became a U.S. citizen and attended the University of California at Berkeley. Afterwards, he joined the Naval Air Cadet Program and became a Marine Corps pilot, flying reconnaissance and attack mission in Korea, the Caribbean, North Pacific and Vietnam. His military service convinced him to become a life-long Christian. Bob had two main goals in life, to become the best Marine Corps pilot possible and to raise a close and loving family. His marriage to Glenna Faye Ferges produced three children, Rob Jr, Lisa, and Robyn. Glenna died of a heart ailment and sometime later he married Judy Shamlou and combined their two families with the addition of her sons, Shawn and John. Even a severe stroke and cancer has not stopped this kind and resilient man from continuing his service to his family and church. Joe Poyer
