La surexposition � long terme au fluorure, en particulier dans les zones end�miques, a �t� associ�e � une s�rie d'effets n�fastes sur la sant�, notamment la neurotoxicit�, qui affecte le d�veloppement de l'intelligence chez les enfants. Le QI est une mesure de l'intelligence d�riv�e de tests standardis�s. De nombreuses �tudes men�es dans le monde entier ont syst�matiquement d�montr� une relation inverse entre l'exposition au fluor et les niveaux de QI chez les enfants. Bien que les preuves sugg�rent une association entre l'exposition au fluor et un QI plus faible, ces r�sultats ne sont pas concluants et ne peuvent pas �tre g�n�ralis�s. Le QI est influenc� par de multiples facteurs, qui n'ont pas �t� �valu�s de mani�re ad�quate dans ces �tudes.
