In the publisher's original blue cloth binding. With the publisher's original unclipped dust wrapper. This copy is undated. Dated here using Jisc, from copies held at various institutions including The British Library, University of Cambridge Libraries, University of Oxford Libraries among others. This work is not a cocktail manual but a literary anthology devoted to drink, containing "A Selection from the Best Things Written Through the Ages on Drinks, Drinking and Drinkers by Poets, Novelists, Essayists, Dramatists, Drunkards, Social Reformers, and Teetotallers". From Falstaff"s jingling demands for sack, Pickwickian punch-bowls and Chesterton"s hymns to beer, to less-quoted sources such as medical pamphlets, Victorian newspaper squibs and World-War-II mess-songs. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, very smart. One or two very slight handling marks to boards. Very slight rubbing and bumping to extremities. Bookplate from "Martin & Pamela Finch: Exlibris Gastronomique" to front free endpaper. Slight scattered spots to endpapers with minor offsetting. Dust wrapper, generally smart. Tape reinforcements to inner extremities. Rubbing and bumping to extremities resulting in the odd small chip and closed tear. Discoloration to rear panel. Age toning to inside wraps. One or two slight handling marks. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with one or two spots. Very Good Indeed. …
