Print on Demand. This book explores the history and evolution of the flour milling industry on the Pacific Coast, focusing on the efforts of the author to establish a successful milling business in San Francisco in the late 19th century. The author argues that by converting wheat into flour at the port before shipping it out of state, California could save on transportation costs and create new industries. The book provides a detailed plan for a new type of mill building, designed to be more efficient and cost-effective than existing mills. The author also discusses the importance of cooperation among farmers, millers, and shippers in order to create a sustainable and prosperous milling industry. Ultimately, this book offers valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities faced by the flour milling industry during a period of rapid growth and change. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

In Flour Mill Problem on the New Process, D. Bequette presents a practical vision for a flour mill that can adapt its size and capacity. The work blends technical design with a clear economic argument for supporting farmers and rebuilding local industry.
The book explains a modular mill approach, details a site and construction plan, and argues for fire safety, efficient labor, and streamlined management. It also includes discussions of governance, stock, and the idea of exporting flour rather than wheat to capture more value for producers and communities.
- Modular, scalable mill design that can expand or contract with needs.
- Fire safety ideas, a high water-tipe system, and room-by-room monitoring concepts.
- Economic case for keeping milling profits in the region and supporting farmers.
- Illustrations of governance, stock issuance, and the proposed company structure.
Ideal for readers interested in historical industrial proposals, practical engineering plans, and early efforts to reform agricultural economics.
