Hardcover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. 1832 reprint, an early edition of the classic title published anonymously ("By a Lady"), before Mrs. Wirt's name was revealed in the 1837 edition. Unpaginated, and interleaved with blank sheets of various colors. Front boards are detached, hanging on by a few threads. Spine is considerably cracked, revealing text block. A few pages detached but laid-in. A couple pages from "Memoirs and Correspondences of Madame Récamier" and a pressed plant card laid-in (possibly prior owner's bookmarks). /// "The first book to broadly popularize the concept of a language of flowers for American readers." (The Language of Flowers: A History, Beverly Seaton) /// "Snap Dragon (Antirrhinum): I was indeed delirious in my heart, / To lift my love so lofty as thou art. / That thou wert beautiful, and I not blind; Hath been my sin;/ To love too much-- has been the only art I used. (Byron)". Seller Inventory # FLAHIVE-646
