Prof. N V Umamahesh has more than 35 years of experience as a faculty in the Department of Civil Engineering at NIT, Warangal. His area of specialization is Water Resources Engineering, and his research areas include hydrological modelling, stochastic hydrology, hydro-climatic extremes, modelling impacts of climate change, urban floods, and water resources systems. He has been well recognized for his analytical and mathematical modelling skills. He guided 13 Ph.D. students and about 100 M.Tech. students. He is currently guiding 7 Ph.D. scholars. He has published more than 60 papers in reputed international journals, 6 book chapters, and presented more than 50 papers in national and international conferences. He has taken up several sponsored research and consultancy projects. He has held several administrative positions including Chief Warden, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, Dean (Student Welfare), Dean (Planning and Development), Dean (Academic), and Coordinator of TEQIP-II. He received the Jalamitra Award from the Government of Andhra Pradesh in 2003 for the best implementation of the Watershed Development Program in Warangal District. He received the Best Engineering Faculty Award in 2017. He organized two international conferences and several faculty development programs.
Prof. Z. Ahmad is Professor of Civil Engineering at IIT Roorkee, India. He obtained his B.Tech. (Civil) degree from AMU Aligarh, M.Tech. (Hydraulic Engineering) degree from Univ. of Roorkee and Ph.D. degree from T.I.E.T., Patiala. Prof. Ahmad has designed many hydraulic structures like Almora Barrage, Ghaggar and Patiala Syphon Aqueducts, Gangapath Patna, River Training works, and addressed many water resources problems related to morphology, erosion, and siltation in the rivers.
Dr Manousos Valyrakis is Assistant Professor at the University of Glasgow and the manager of the Water Engineering Lab. The primary focus of Dr Valyrakis’ research is to develop the theories, methods, and tools to better study, understand, and assess the hydrodynamic conditions responsible for the onset of entrainment of coarse grains in turbulent flows. Knowledge of such threshold flow conditions is important for a variety of applications ranging from environmental hydraulics, such as protection of hydraulic structures from scour, to stream ecology, assessment of the ecologically and environmentally sound flow conditions for the protection of stream habitat. He got his Eng. Diploma and M.Sc. degrees from Aristotle University (Greece) and Ph.D. and Post-doc from Virginia Tech (USA). Dr Valyrakis has more than 20 years’ experience in environmental hydraulics and experimental and computational fluid mechanics. He is the recipient of several awards and serves in the Experimental Measurement and Instrumentation (EMI) Leadership Team of the International Association of Hydro-environment Research (IAHR). He has chaired more than 20 sessions at international events, including EGU, IAHR, and RiverFlow. He serves as a guest editor for journals of repute. Previously, he has also served on more than 15 technical or scientific committees and advisory boards for international conferences and events. He is the manager of the Water Engineering Laboratory, where he is currently leading research activities relevant to experimental flow dynamics and eco-hydraulics.
