Two large quarto volumes bound in recent plain cloth, continuously paginated with 1146 pages, illustrated throughout. Bound in series (see collation notes below), with the original illustrated wrappers included. Excellent condition, uncirculated copies. A substantial run of the profusely illustrated British aviation journal, and a significant source of information for the early years of flying. The set of 51 issues here offered covers the entire year of 1911 (being numbers 106 through to 157). Flight was first published on 2 January 1909 as the weekly official journal of the Aero Club of the United Kingdom, later renamed the Royal Aero Club. The magazine was founded by Stanley Spooner. Spooner was an editor and journalist. In 1909, he was a member of the committee of the Aero Club of the United Kingdom. Spooner's magazine recorded information about the multiple aero clubs across the United Kingdom on topics such as: ballooning, model plane aircraft, flying competitions, and other activities affiliated with aviation. When Stanley Spooner retired in 1934, he sold Flight magazine to Iliffe & Sons. In early 1962, Flight magazine was renamed Flight International. Much of the interest in a periodical of this era lies within the advertising. For example, Howard Wright biplanes are offered for sale, brand new, at between 350 and 550 pounds apiece. Flight magazine includes occasional Australian content such as an illustrated article titled "Uses of the Aeroplane in Australia" by Sydney E. Smith.
