While in Bangkok helping her daughter settle into university, she reluctantly buys a vintage Polaroid camera from a charming American expat named Jake. Bangkok.
A vintage Polaroid. A stranger with a rooftop and a grin. Then the flash.
Quan is forty-five, a Korean wife and mother who has spent twenty years doing what was required of her. She is in the city only to settle her daughter into university and go home. The camera is a graduation gift. The man selling it is supposed to be an errand.
The flash is not.
It pulls up a boy she has not named in two decades — six weeks, a promise to write, then silence. What she buried with him comes back in one white burst, and the careful life she built starts to slip.
She can go back to duty. Or she can take one thing that belongs only to her.
Flashes of You is a midlife affair story about memory, hunger, and the cost of finally saying yes.
Contains sexual content and infidelity.
