Debuting in English, this novel by Spanish author Cesar Vidal sweeps yon back in history to the corridors of Roman power. As the armies of civilization clash with barbarian hordes, a strange new religious sect is spreading a message that threatens the Emperor Nero's claim to supremacy.
Enter Marcus Junius Vitalis, a general of the Roman army and a veteran of military campaigns across the Orient Called "The Asiatic," Vitalis knows the ways of cultures from Asia Minor to Judea to Egypt and beyond. Now his ability and depth of experience are called on by no less than Nero himself to assist in the interrogation of a most unusual prisoner.
Nothing about the man in question, an aged fisherman named Petros, seems particularly striking - until he begins to speak. Then, in the face of the man's words, Nero himself trembles. Through Petros's frank, unvarnished account of his friendship with a man named Jesus - a Jewish teacher and miracle worker crucified thirty years ago at the hands of Pontius Pilate - a message emerges that can shape the destiny of nations. It is the proclamation of a kingdom where love, grace, forgiveness, and faith achieve what military might cannot; and of a coming king, risen from the dead, who will return to earth one day and judge all people justly.
Even Vitalis ... and Nero.

It is the year AD 62. The notorious Roman emperor Nero orders Marco Junio Vitalis, a seasoned military general, to assist him in a most peculiar legal proceeding. Vitalis interrogates an elderly Jewish fisherman called Peter, who many years earlier had been a close friend of a man known as Jesus--the same Jesus condemned to death in Jerusalem by Pontius Pilate.

Loyal to the emperor, Vitalis determines to do everything in his power to expose the truth around this strange new religious sect before it undermines Roman rule. So it is, through the course of interrogation between veteran soldier and detainee, that a story emerges that will shake the very foundations of the Roman Empire.

Now making its first-ever appearance in English, this award-winning, meticulously researched Spanish bestseller transports readers back to ancient Rome â ¦ to a culture far removed from ours yet with striking similarities â ¦ and a time of tumultuous upheaval where the stakes are high for followers of Christ.
