Neuware - Every AI lab on Earth is chasing something life invented four billion years ago. Before there was silicon, there was DNA - the original compressed code, copied, debugged, and version-controlled across billions of years of trial and error. Before there were neural networks, there were neurons. Before there was training data, there was childhood. Before 'the cloud,' there was culture. The First AI makes the case, chapter by chapter and always in plain language, that every living thing - human, animal, and plant - is already running the architecture we now marvel at in artificial intelligence: sensing, learning, compressing, and transmitting information forward. Modern AI isn't a rival to human intelligence. It's an imitation of it, arriving several hundred million years late. But this book doesn't stop at biology. It asks the harder question underneath: if your genes stop accepting new updates the moment you're done having children, what happens to the other thirty, forty, fifty years of hard-won wisdom you go on collecting anyway Where does that learning go if it can't be passed down in DNA And is there any reason - scientific, philosophical, or simply very old and very widespread across every human culture - to take seriously the idea that we are more connected to each other, and to whatever comes after us, than biology alone can explain Blending evolutionary biology, genetics, neuroscience, and computer science with careful, clearly-labeled philosophical speculation on consciousness, karma, and rebirth, The First AI is for readers of Yuval Noah Harari, Donald Hoffman, and anyone who has ever wondered what a machine would have to learn from us before it could really be called intelligent - and what we might still have to learn about ourselves. You were the first AI. This book is the user manual nobody gave you.…

Every AI lab on Earth is chasing something life invented four billion years ago.
Before there was silicon, there was DNA — the original compressed code, copied, debugged, and version-controlled across billions of years of trial and error. Before there were neural networks, there were neurons. Before there was training data, there was childhood. Before "the cloud," there was culture.
The First AI makes the case, chapter by chapter and always in plain language, that every living thing — human, animal, and plant — is already running the architecture we now marvel at in artificial intelligence: sensing, learning, compressing, and transmitting information forward. Modern AI isn't a rival to human intelligence. It's an imitation of it, arriving several hundred million years late.
But this book doesn't stop at biology. It asks the harder question underneath: if your genes stop accepting new updates the moment you're done having children, what happens to the other thirty, forty, fifty years of hard-won wisdom you go on collecting anyway? Where does that learning go if it can't be passed down in DNA? And is there any reason — scientific, philosophical, or simply very old and very widespread across every human culture — to take seriously the idea that we are more connected to each other, and to whatever comes after us, than biology alone can explain?
Blending evolutionary biology, genetics, neuroscience, and computer science with careful, clearly-labeled philosophical speculation on consciousness, karma, and rebirth, The First AI is for readers of Yuval Noah Harari, Donald Hoffman, and anyone who has ever wondered what a machine would have to learn from us before it could really be called intelligent — and what we might still have to learn about ourselves.
