Paperback. First Short Film is a practical technical guide for beginner filmmakers who want cleaner footage, clearer sound, and a smoother path from capture to grading. Whether you're shooting a short film, a documentary, a promotional video, or your first serious screen project. This book answers the questions that come up on almost every early shoot, in the order they tend to cause trouble: motion that feels "video", exposure that breaks when you try to grade, drifting white balance that ruins continuity, soft focus on important shots, flicker from LEDs and screens, unstable movement, weak audio, and recording settings that create fragile files.Written in a clear Q&A style, First Short Film takes you from the camera fundamentals that matter most (frame rate and shutter, exposure discipline, focus methods, lens choices, ND filters, flicker control, codecs and bit depth) through to a simple, beginner-friendly workflow for matching shots and building a clean grade. The emphasis is on repeatable decisions and dependable habits, so you stop discovering problems in the edit and start producing footage that cuts together smoothly. You'll also find the essentials that many camera-focused beginners miss: basic sound capture principles, monitoring methods that reveal the truth on set, and safe media/backup habits that prevent losing a shoot day. A glossary at the end keeps key terms clear when you're working under pressure. If you want your next project to look intentional, sound intelligible, and grade without falling apart, First Short Film gives you a calm, practical method you can apply immediately. Using the gear you already have, and improving results through better choices rather than guesswork. This item is printed on demand.
