The author, an experienced educator, employs a structured approach that introduces new words gradually, building upon familiar vocabulary and concepts to foster reading fluency. Through engaging stories, children encounter relatable characters and explore themes of friendship, responsibility, and the joy of reading. The program's emphasis on repeated exposure to key vocabulary and its progression from simple to more complex narratives helps young readers develop confidence and a love of literature. This book serves as a valuable resource for parents, teachers, and anyone seeking to cultivate a lifelong passion for reading in children. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. There is no break between the Primer and First Reader of this series. To make the transition from one book to the other very simple and easy, the last thirty new words introduced into the Primer are used in the first twenty pages of the First Reader in new combinations. Thus the same vocabulary is being used, but the words are in entirely new relations. This makes the bridge between the Primer and First Reader very easy to cross.
The vocabulary is carried on through the first half of the book in connection with subjects suited to arouse the active interest of children. The form of the stories then changes, but without the slightest break in the grading of the vocabulary.
The second part consists of a simple, connected story of a kitten, called The Life of Snowball. It is arranged in this form so that the children may be gradually led from short, simple statements of inter esting objects and actions to the smooth, easy sentence forms of the Second Reader.
The next part of the book is in still a different form. It couples the play idea of the dolls with the true home life of the children themselves. Here alsothe vocabulary is drawn wholly from Objects familiar to children in their own homes, thus making the inter est vital and keen. Each doll is mistress of a certain room in the doll house, and a simple title to each story forms another step toward the appreciation of the Second Reader. This reader closes with a short series of stories called The Boys' Club, which will be found especially interesting to boys of the First Reader age. The vocabulary is developed in the same careful way to the very end of the book.
As in the Primer, the new words are found at the head of each lesson.
The First Reader and Primer stand as com panion books in aim and method and so close is the relation of one to the other, that the First Reader needs the support of the Primer to round out the course as planned.
Note. While there are words in this book, there are only 255 new words. There are 32 words carried over from the Primer, which makes 287 fundamental words altogether. Since Expressive Oral Reading is the aim of this series, the advantages of the limited vocabulary will readily appear.

Terms of sale
All books are Print on Demand and will be printed upon purchase and shipped in New Condition. Orders typically ship within 3-5 business days. If you're dissatisfied with your purchase (Incorrect Book/Not as Described/Damaged) or if the order hasn't arrived, you're eligible for a refund within 30 days of the estimated delivery date. Other policies

All Forgotten Books titles are printed on demand. The moment an order is submitted, it is automatically transmitted to our distributor and then forwarded to the printer, where it enters production. This process begins within minutes and is entirely automated.
A cancellation, however, is a manual, multi-step request that must pass through several systems. By the time such a request reaches the appropriate stage, the book has almost always been printed, packed, or already dispatched, which makes cancellation impossible.
For this reason, we kindly ask that you double-check the title, edition, and your shipping details before placing an order.
If you change your mind after ordering, you are welcome to return the book once it arrives, and a refund will be issued in accordance with AbeBooks’ return policy.
Please also make sure your address is correct before ordering as we will no be able to intervene and make changes before the book is shipped.
We can provide digital samples for all our print books ahead, so don't hesitate to reach out.
Returns
As a small publisher we do not have the facilities to resell returned books, so any returned book will be recycled. If the book is damaged or defective please continue with the return process, and thank you for letting us know so that we can improve our products. If you’re returning for another reason, however, please consider whether you could donate or gift the book instead so that it avoids the waste pile.
Thank you in advance!
