Item description from seller

2 fine engraved maps on 8 sheets (each sheet ca 21 x 17 inches) engraved by Richard William Searle after d'Anville, revised by Bolton from Jacques Savary des Bruslons' "The Universal Dictionary of Trade and Commerce, translated from the French . with Large Improvements . by Malachy Postlethwayt". Following the death of Guillaume Delisle, Jean Baptiste Bourguignon d'Anville continued the line of progressive French cartographers which had begun with Nicolas Sanson in the previous century. He was a scrupulous editor of maps and his work spanned most of the eighteenth century. He was concerned equally with the classical and modern worlds and he was continually updating the geographical content of his maps. Anville's maps of Asia, also accompany Du Halde's "Description géographique, historique, chronologique, politique, et physique de l'Empire de la Chine et de la Tartarie Chinoise" of 1736.
