Print on Demand. This book delves into the causes of the first war between the United States and Mexico, exploring the complex historical context and events leading up to the conflict. It sheds light on the motivations and actions of key players, including General Santa Anna and Sam Houston, whose dramatic clash at the Battle of the Alamo set the stage for the war. The book examines the underlying tensions between the two nations, particularly concerning the annexation of Texas and the issue of slavery, which would later fuel further conflict. The author analyzes the diplomatic efforts to avert war, such as mediation attempts and proposed treaties, and discusses the reasons why these efforts ultimately failed. By delving into the origins and consequences of this pivotal war, the book contributes to a deeper understanding of the intertwining histories of the United States and Mexico. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

- Modern Military and War History
It was the expectation Of a second war, two years ago, that revived my own ln terest in the war of 1846 - 48. Most of its histories can be divided into two classes. First come those written immediately after the conclusion Of peace. The authors of these painted everything red, white, and blue, and chanted songs of glory. Then come the histories written under what may be called Abolition influence. The authors Of these painted everything coal black and passed by on the other side.
