Description:
Green buckram binding with gilt decoration to spine. Outer and lower page edges untrimmed, spine faded and has slight wear to ends. Light marking to boards, top page edge dusty. Foxing to endpapers, title page and last two pages of ads, a few patches of foxing to text. A couple of pages have been folded to upper corner. Originally published in the Strand magazine in 1900/1901 and in book form in both the UK and US in 1901. In 1904 the rights transferred from Newnes to Macmillan who published a second edition, retaining the 12 illustrations by Claude Shepperson. This example is the second printing of the second edition. Surprisingly the Macmillan printings are much scarcer than the first edition. Overall condition is Very Good. Size: 5.5 x 7.75 inches (14 x 19.5 cm). Hardback. Printed pages: 339, 32.
