Print on Demand. A significant contribution to the history of English Christianity, this 1850s work draws on historical documents to explore the shifts in the Church of England's position and belief brought about by the reign of Henry VIII. The author, a minister of the church, posits that the church's current position is directly related to the power struggles of the Tudor era, when the crown and the church established the supremacy of the monarch over religious affairs. From the date of this you will observe, that I am writing before the decision of the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council has been pronounced in the case of Mr. Gorham against the bishop of Exeter. And so far as this first letter is concerned, I shall not care to suppose what the decision will be: whether in favour of Mr. Gorham; or, in favour of the bishop that is, as distinctly, as firmly, and as unequivocally as was the judgment in the Court below, by Sir Herbert Jenner Fust.
