Every child deserves the chance to be mentally and emotionally prepared for elementary school so that they can go to school with joy.
Your child is now starting elementary school. It is a new stage in your child's life and that means preparation! Every child is dealing with the start of school on the inside, whether they are confident and looking forward to school, or scared and would rather stay in kindergarten. Children are not yet able to show all their feelings and they often don't know how to explain what's on their mind.
Your child is dealing with questions like:
- Can I quickly make new friends?
- Do I understand the lessons at school?
- Do I enjoy school?
- Do the other children tease me?
- Will I start school without friends?
- Do I only have to learn or can I play too?
- Are there big kids who scare me?
- Do all the other kids look at me when I speak up?
- Do the other children like me?
These and many more questions is what your child is thinking about, whether he or she is communicating to you or not.
Reading these stories about starting school together and questioning the concerns and fears of the children in the book, such as "What can I do when the other kids make fun of me?" or "What do I do when I run into a bully?" will help you better understand your child's emotional world.
This book tells the story of children in a first-grade class, beginning with the kindergarten children's visit to the school and continuing through elementary school enrollment and the first few weeks in first grade.
The girls and boys will face exciting challenges, which they can solve on their own, with the help of the teachers or with the school class.
What makes this book stand out:
- Short funny stories: The short 10-minute stories are perfect for reading aloud, even if you're just on a tight schedule. Your child's attention and concentration will be enhanced.
- Feelings and expectations: The different challenges the children face in the stories, such as making new friends or staying focused during difficult moments, will help your child cope more positively with their own new challenges.
- Questions at the end of each story: Upon reading together, at the end of the story, use the reflection and comprehension questions to find out the extent to which your child understands the stories and can empathize with the other children's fears and concerns.
- Questions developed by experts: By the type of questions asked, you will rapidly find out which feelings your child is currently dealing with, so that you can swiftly provide him/her with support in case of fears or worries.
- Appealing hand-drawn colorful pictures: Many studies have proven that children aged five to seven still need color illustrations to get more feel for the stories and strengthen children's imagination. Hence, the colorful pictures provide a more beautiful and deeper reading experience.
Starting school stories don't have to be boring. Have fun with entertaining and exciting stories, dive into the world of starting elementary school together and get to know your child's emotional world better by asking specific questions to support your child more intensively so that the start of elementary school becomes even more positive.
