These 50 kid-tested recipes are clearly written and easy-to-bake for children 6 and up. All are accompanied by gleefully drawn two-color, step-by-step illustrations by Tedd Arnold. And there are two 16-page full-color sections featuring treats for the holidays and other special occasions. Liberally sprinkled throughout are tidbits of food facts (Did you know those Georgia peaches originally came from China?).
Here is Oatmeal and Nut Streusel to liven up the family breakfast. Indian Pudding Pie to serve as a special Thanksgiving dessert. Fudge Sticks to take on a summer picnic, and Moon Cookies to share with a friend.
Complete with a full chapter on kitchen safety and proper use of kitchen utensils, plus plenty of recipes using whole grains and fruit juice sweeteners to bake up yummy and nutritiously sound, My First Baking Book is a must for all young chefs.
Selection of the Children's Book-of-the-Month Club and the Quality Paperback Book Club. Suitable for Ages 6-10. 152,000 copies in print.

SWEET-TALK FROM BIALOSKY:
"When I was growing up, we weren't as concerned about the amount of sugar we ate as we are today. So I've reduced the amounts traditionally used in all these recipes and have still kept their good old-fashioned taste. Now my friends and I can have a cookie or two without thinking about how much sugar is in them."
Rena Coyle, a former professional pastry chef, teaches children's cooking classes and is the author of My First Cookbook and Baby Let's Eat! She tested each of the original recipes in this book with her five-year-old daughter Catelyn.
Biolosky is an invaluable right-hand bear for every young baker. (He especially likes helping with the Honey 'n' Spice Bits.)
