Originally developed from the first laid-out first aid course lectures in the late 1870s, First Aid to the Injured is one of the earliest practical manuals on emergency first-aid techniques intended for untrained civilians and volunteers. Compiled from Surgeon-Major Peter Shepherd's teaching material, and later revised by Dr Robert Bruce, the handbook sets out straightforward, step-by-step guidance on how to respond to injuries and sudden illness, from controlling bleeding, splinting fractures and dressing wounds to dealing with shock and resuscitation-related care. Published in a compact, pocket-sized format by St. John's Gate (the centre.
