Item description from seller

This technical study of the forensics of firearms had its origins in Major General Hartcher's, publication "Textbook of Firearms Investigation Identification and Evidence", first published by Samworth Ams Books in 1935 and they ran a second printing in 1946. Following the publication of articles in the "American Rifleman" in 1953 by Lieutenant Colonel Jury and Jac Weller ,a firearms consultant and special police investigator, they were approached by Hartcher with the idea that they should jointly revise and update his original work, by then long out of priint but almost the only reference book in its field. The first issue of the resultant second edition was published by Stackpoler in late 1954, with reprints in 1957 and this fhird printing 1977. This editiion contained about 90per cent more information than the original, while still using much of that material. In their preface Jury and Weller said the book was prepared with the advice of FBI experts and many others with similar expertise from numerous organisations. Content is divided over 16 chapters: History of firearms identification, Early history of firearms, Breechloading metallic cartridge fireams, History of ammunition, Modern firearms manufacture, Powders, Bombs and expl;osives, Markings on firearms and cartridges, Photography in investigation of firearms crimes, The Firearms identification laboratory and its equipment, General investigation of firearms crimes, Laboratory investigation and proceedings in "no gun" work, Matching of crime and test bullets and cartridge cases, Automatic weapons and rifle identification and Miscellaneous information. These are followed by 28 case histories and a comprehensive index. An unique and thorough study of an unusual subject. Third printing from Stackpole of the second edition of 1954, 536 pages including the index, b/w photos, diagrams, drawings, tables etc throughout. Red hard covers with gitlt front/spine titles are VG+, with light bumping at spine base, two stamps of former owner on FFEP, otherwise internally excellent. Unpacked book weight is almost 1kg and additional postage may be required for international delivery.
