Fiona Tan is one of the most distinctive contemporary artists working in film and video. Her work moves between documentation and fiction, biography and fantasy. In using historical and ethnographic film material, Tan shows portraits of individuals and groups from different cultural backgrounds and social strata. Mirror Maker includes important works dating from the last eight years.
About the Author: Fiona Tan was born in Indonesia in 1966 and studied art in Amsterdam, where she now lives and works. She had various solo exhibitions, like at the Musee d'Art Contemporain, Montral/Canada, Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago and New York/ and Hammer Museum Los Angeles. She took part at the 49th Venice Biennal 2001 and Documenta11 2002. Austrian art historian, lives and works in Linz, Austria. Born 1961 in Hamm, Germany. Studied history, philosophy and ethnology. Since 2001 curator and since 2004 assistant director at the artmuseum in Odense (Kunsthallen Brandts Klædefabrik), Denmark.
