A strong practical approach built around the idea that financial decisions are not made in a vacuum. Theory is introduced on a qualitative basis with the assumption of no prior background in finance.
The text is based on a valuation approach, as opposed to a balance sheet approach.
All formulas are explained both verbally and by means of simple mathematical examples.
Each chapter contains real life examples drawn from the financial press.
Financial markets, investment principles, and management theories are discussed as parts of the total environment in which financial decisions are made.
International finance is an integral part of the book by exploring the global dimensions of each issue discussed.
Extensive use is made of graphs, tables, and illustrations to help demonstrate concepts.
The vocabulary is readable and understandable to the average student. Key terms are in bold face when they are first used, and a glossary appears at the end of each chapter.
Each chapter begins with learning objectives which indicate why it is important that student learn the contents of the chapter.
Each chapter ends with a series of self-study questions (with page references to the answers) and a set of self-test problems (with answers supplied on the following pages).
A set of concept questions and problems at the end of each chapter, designed to test and enhance the student's comprehension of the major concepts in the chapter, can be assigned for homework. Answers are supplied in the instructor's manual.
A list of topics for further research can be used as suggested term paper topics.
