This copy belonged to Benedict Nicolson (1914-78), a prominent art historian. Locker-Lampson (1875-1946), an MP and author, formed a highly selective collection of Italian paintings. They include Pietro Longhi s Visit to a Library, Vivarini s St. Jerome (National Gallery of Art, Washington), and Bacchiacca s Eve with Cain and Abel (Metropolitan Museum of Art). The works were eventually dispersed in 1938. It is likely that this catalogue was prepared as a record of the collection before its contents were auctioned off. Very good copy.
