Item description from seller

14. Bruges (Brugge), Charles Beyaert, 1918, 2 vols, large in-4°, bound in modern full cloth, leather label on spine, original illustrated wrapper preserved (designed by Fl. van Acker ) . xvi pp + 271 pp ; 306 pp; numerous illustrations and groundfloors, coloured and folding lithographies, tipped-in photographs. bound in modern full cloth, leather label on spine, original illustrated wrapper preserved (designed by Fl. van Acker ) . A few sparse foxing smots but a fine set. On the reconstruction of the war-devastated countryside in Flanders (battlefield WW I ). The author first gives a detailed study of the history and the typical features of the Flemish farmhouse and then develops a guideline for the construction of new farmhouses. From this starting point he obviously advocates a conservative approach to reconstruction. Apart from the notes on reconstruction, the historical analysis is important in itself. (Belgian architecture, rural architecture, reconstruction).
