Print on Demand. This book presents the reader with a unique opportunity to better understand the economic conditions the United States faced in 1993. Compiled from testimony given to Congress by the twelve Federal Reserve Bank presidents, the author presents diverse perspectives on monetary policy and the economic conditions of the individual regions, which gave rise to these various positions. Taken as a composite, the book allows the reader to see the variation in economic conditions around the nation in 1993 and the challenges faced by those in charge of setting policy to guide the country out of a recession. The insights gleaned from the region-specific data and informed opinions in this book will greatly benefit anyone interested in economic policy and its effects on the nation. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book.…

Let me welcome all those in attendance this morning and take note of the fact that we have been out of this committee room, our normal committee room now, for some months, as the various rooms in this building are being refurbished. And so, we're back today for the first time, and we want to thank all those who did the work to take and sort of improve the condition of the room, and in that context, want to welcome our very special witnesses this morning.
