Paperback. A slightly longer version, optimized for the product page; opens with a hook, closes with literary positioning. There is only one thing that never dies: wealth. And it is always looking for new hands to cling to.Don Vito made himself from nothing, stone by stone, wresting from bad land an empire now worth more than anyone in his family knows how to count. Seven children, twenty-two grandchildren, and one question beneath every Sunday lunch: who will get it all, the day the old man closes his eyes?Grandfather has already decided. He did not choose the kindest, or the firstborn: he chose the hardest, the only one capable of holding the wealth together instead of letting it scatter. His name is Michele, and he is six years old the first time the old man looks at him from the far end of the table and recognizes him. From that day begins a story of favoritism and hatred, of a boy placed at the head of a fortune that is not his and that he must defend, alone, against everyone, for the rest of his life. A story in which every victory costs something, and in which the man who wins risks discovering, too late, that he has become exactly what condemned him in the first place.A tragedy of wealth in the tradition of Sicilian verismo: the rise of a man who gets everything and, in getting it, loses the one thing that matters. There is only one thing that never dies: wealth. And it is always looking for new hands to cling to.
Don Vito made himself from nothing, stone by stone, wresting from bad land an empire now worth more than anyone in his family knows how to count. Seven children, twenty-two grandchildren, and one question beneath every Sunday lunch: who will get it all, the day the old man closes his eyes?
Grandfather has already decided.
A story in which every victory costs something, and in which the man who wins risks discovering, too late, that he has become exactly what condemned him in the first place.
A tragedy of wealth in the tradition of Sicilian verismo: the rise of a man who gets everything and, in getting it, loses the one thing that matters.
