One of a series of early romance & adventure novels designed to promote "good old-fashioned American values" in the early 20th century. Ms. Porter, a native of Indiana, was widely read in her day & an early nature photographer/environmentalist ahead of her time. Orig. published in 1921, this is the First Grosset & Dunlap reprint edition, using the same plates, but designed to make fine books accessible to more readers. Hardcover book in 486 pages + add't. pages advertising other titles in rear has gray cloth-covered boards with dark blue lettering to front & spine. Condition is VG: very clean with the occasional smudge. Binding strong & straight, pages creamy white, with light tanning, commensurate with age & paper quality, but unmarked. The unclipped DJ is VG-/Good+, showing heavy darkening to white areas & minor edgewear/chipping, sticker pull to lower spine, rubbing to extremities; nicely protected in clear mylar cover free! Our photos depict the exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have!
