After the sudden death of his mother, seventeen-year-old Alex McCree is moved from the only life he's ever known and sent to live with godparents he's never met, a sprawling, noisy family on a Midwest farm where order rules and expectations are high.
Numb with grief and accustomed to living by his own rules, Alex struggles to fit in among the Morisons, between the stern father who demands respect and the warm but overwhelmed mother who quietly hopes he'll stay... not to mention the siblings who treat life like a chaotic game. Among them is Evan, a sharp, independent girl who prefers fixing trucks to small talk and who, like Alex, knows what it feels like to hide behind a tough shell.
As Alex battles memories of his painful past, schoolyard rumors, and his own gnawing guilt, he slowly realizes that healing isn't about forgetting where you come from, it's about daring to believe you could belong somewhere new. But belonging doesn't come easily, and Alex will have to choose: stay closed off and survive alone, or risk opening his heart to a family, and perhaps a future, he never expected to find.
Far From the Sound is a coming-of-age story about grief, resilience, and the unbreakable ties that can grow from unexpected places. Perfect for readers who love found-family narratives, slow-burn friendships, and emotional journeys that linger long after the final page.
