Whether it's called conversion, repentance, regeneration or being born again, the experience of personal encounter with God or the conviction of divine call lies at the heart of Christian spirituality throughout the ages. This anthology of fifty conversion stories of some of the great lights of church history reveals the dazzling variety of spiritual experience as well as the great common theme of call and response. This ecumenical selection of narratives includes those of St. Paul, Constantine, Augustine, John Calvin, Blaise Pascal, John Bunyan, Wesley, Ignatius Loyola, George Whitefield, John Newton, Elizabeth Seton, J.H. Newman, Sojourner Truth, Sergius Bulgakov, Evelyn Underhill, Evelyn Waugh, Simone Weil, Malcolm Muggeridge, and many others. The great become as children as they tell their stories. I left him, pardoned and reconciled, trembling and in tears, feeling myself returned, as on wings within the precincts of the Church.' Sergius Bulgakov, from Famous Conversions. …
