The father is a dustman and the mother a washerwoman, but just because they are poor, the children find greater opportunities for adventure and diversion in the course of their ordinary lives.The book was awarded the Carnegie Medal as a best children's book of 1937, and it stands out among its contemporaries for its lively scene, sure characterization and its fundamental soundness as being true to life." With 31 black and white line drawn illustrations. Condition: Very Good. The cover is a little worn at the corners and spine; also darkened and slightly grubby.The end block is also a bit darkened particularly along the top edge. The pages within are clean and un-thumbed.
