Paperback. Slightly sunned spine to cover. This book provides a comprehensive survey of contemporary controversies surrounding change in the Western Family and the interests it serves. it examines debates concerning the biological origins of the nuclear family and gender roles, the development of the conjugal family as the dominant family form in Western society, the changing roles of women and men in the family, the legitimation of divorce and serial monogamy, and the emergence of alternative family forms. Marxist and feminst approaches to these issues are considered alongside traditional functionalist approaches. The range of issues covered, together with the adoption of a dispassionate approach to competing theoretical and ideological perspectives, and the clear presentation of difficult material, make this an extremely useful textbook. 235 pp (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions etc.).…
