In the age of AI, answers are becoming easier to find. The greater challenge, and competitive advantage is helping people ask the right questions, exercise judgment, combine human and artificial intelligence, and turn collective expertise into results. Today’s most complex challenges cannot be solved by one leader, one expert, one department, or one part of a community. They require people with different knowledge, perspectives, and responsibilities to think, learn, decide, and act together. Yet simply bringing people together does not ensure better solutions, or better results.
Facilitating Collaborative Human Performance introduces a new professional practice for turning collective expertise into performance and results. Grounded in human performance improvement, systems thinking, adult learning, and the science and practice of collaboration, this book equips leaders, consultants, coaches, facilitators, educators, and improvement professionals to move groups beyond conversation and consensus toward meaningful action and sustainable results.
Readers learn how to facilitate people through the work of identifying complex performance challenges, engaging the right stakeholders, uncovering performance factors and causes, developing solutions collaboratively, aligning efforts, building capacity, navigating change, and implementing for sustainable results.
At its heart is a powerful shift in the role of the professional: from being the person with the answers or the one running a meeting to becoming the person who creates the conditions for people to discover, own, and implement the answers together.
Facilitating Collaborative Human Performance is both a practical guide and an invitation to a new professional identity, one designed for a world in which expertise is distributed, challenges are increasingly complex, and lasting improvement depends on the ability to mobilize the knowledge and commitment of others.
AI will continue to transform how work gets done. Collaborative Human Performance Facilitators will be essential to transforming what humans can accomplish together. This playbook prepares professionals for what comes next.
