A smart copy of this illustrated collection of fables attributed to Aesop, with instructive moral applications from Samuel Croxall. Illustrated with one hundred engravings, including a folding frontispiece and title vignette. The engraving to page 148 has been printed upside-down. A collection of the fables attributed to Aesop, a Greek fabulist and storyteller noted for his tales characterized by anthropomorphic animal characters. Many of the tales credited to him were gathered across the centuries and in many languages in a storytelling tradition that continues to this day. This collection includes titles such as: The Cock and the Jewel, The Frogs Desiring a King, and The Kite and the Pigeons, amongst others. With instructive moral applications from Samuel Croxall, an Anglican churchman, writer and translator, particularly noted for his edition of Aesop's Fables. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and small splits in the cloth to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd small spot and light age toning to the extremities. Light creases to the front free endpaper. Very Good.
