Struggling to connect the mechanism of a drug to the patient in front of you? Pharmacology courses hand students dense receptor diagrams and half-life equations, but rarely explain why a nurse practitioner titrates one beta-blocker slowly while pushing another in an emergency. That gap between memorized facts and bedside judgment is where most learners lose confidence, and where clinical mistakes quietly take root.
Foundations of Pharmacology closes that gap. Across 25 chapters, this 2026 edition walks from the molecular basis of drug-receptor binding through the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles that govern every prescription, then into organ-system-based therapeutics: cardiovascular, respiratory, central nervous system, endocrine, antimicrobial, gastrointestinal, renal, and oncologic pharmacology.
Each chapter is built for how clinicians actually learn:
- Clinical vignettes that place a real patient in front of every core concept
- Rapid-review sidebars for last-minute exam and shift-prep scanning
- Drug-dosing snapshot tables covering dose, route, frequency, and monitoring
- Red-flag boxes marking the errors that cause the most harm
- Over 45 detailed clinical illustrations teaching mechanism, anatomy, and interaction pathways
A free bonus video course is included: scan the QR code on the final page for access to a full library of instructor-led pharmacology video lessons that reinforce every organ system covered in the text.
Whether you are a medical student building your foundation, a nurse practitioner or physician assistant preparing for boards, or a pharmacist sharpening clinical reasoning, this reference gives you the mechanism, the dose, and the reason it matters, all in one place.
