A Comprehensive Clinical Textbook of Development, Structure, Biomechanics, and Functional Anatomy
Master the intricate anatomy of the foot and ankle through a detailed, clinically focused exploration of one of the most complex regions of the human body.
Foot and Ankle Anatomy provides a comprehensive examination of the developmental, structural, biomechanical, and functional foundations that govern foot and ankle performance in health and disease. Designed for medical students, orthopedic trainees, podiatrists, physical therapists, sports medicine professionals, anatomists, and healthcare practitioners, this textbook bridges fundamental anatomical science with practical clinical application.
From embryological development and osteology to ligamentous architecture, musculature, neurovascular anatomy, and gait mechanics, readers gain a complete understanding of the structures responsible for mobility, stability, shock absorption, balance, and locomotion.
The text systematically examines the hindfoot, midfoot, forefoot, ankle complex, subtalar joint, transverse tarsal joints, tarsometatarsal articulations, and metatarsophalangeal structures. Detailed chapters explore bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, vascular networks, peripheral nerves, surface anatomy, and clinically relevant anatomical variations.
Special emphasis is placed on the functional biomechanics of gait, including pronation, supination, the windlass mechanism, load transmission, dynamic stabilization, and the coordinated interactions that enable efficient movement. Clinical correlations throughout the book connect anatomical principles with common injuries, deformities, degenerative conditions, surgical considerations, and diagnostic evaluation.
Whether used as a foundational learning resource, board examination reference, clinical anatomy review, or professional practice guide, this volume delivers an authoritative and integrated approach to foot and ankle anatomy.
